FAQ
When should my child first see the dentist?
We agree with the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry that you bring your child to see Dr. George A. Varghese around age one. At this time, their baby teeth are starting to appear, and we can begin monitoring their dental development.
Of course, when your child’s only a year old, we’re not going to try to do any complicated exams or treatments. Every positive experience your child has with us is a step toward developing a good attitude about dental care. If they feel good about seeing the dentist now, chances are that dental visits won’t cause them a lot of anxiety as an adult.
During the first visit, we’ll take time to show your little all the interesting equipment and introduce them to our caring staff. We’ll count their teeth and let them take a little ride in the dental chair.
What should I do about bleeding gums?
If their gums feel tender, people often stop brushing and flossing, thinking they are allowing themselves time to heal. However, stopping your daily care routines can actually make the problem worse. If your gums bleed, feel tender, or look swollen, you may have gum disease.
The correct response to gum disease is to brush and floss more thoroughly and to schedule a professional dental cleaning with our hygienist so that we can help you get back on track to good health.
Allowing gum disease to go untreated is dangerous. Researchers linked the presence of gum disease to a number of other systemic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Bleeding gums are your body’s way of asking for your attention, and the best way you can handle it is with a visit to your dentist.
Treatment of periodontal disease usually requires one or more specialized dental cleanings designed to eliminate bacteria, calculus, and plaque from your teeth so that healing can begin. Dr George A. Varghese may recommend oral medications to speed the healing process along. In many cases, we can reverse the symptoms of gum disease, but in order to stay healthy, regular dental cleanings and exams are essential.

What are my options for tooth replacement?
When a tooth is lost, a whole series of events can begin to occur. Chewing on the affected side becomes more difficult and over time the remaining teeth can actually tilt and erupt into the open space. Teeth like to touch so they will move in all directions.
Depending on the location of the missing tooth, we would most likely recommend either a dental implant, a bridge, or a partial denture.
